We acknowledge with humility and gratitude that we are gathering on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy in Calgary Alberta: Siksikaitsitapi (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations and the Métis Nation (Region 3).
This land has been home to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years, and it is a huge part of their history, culture and identity. We recognize that this land is deeply connected to these nations’ spiritual beliefs and practices, as well as their relationship to Mother Earth.
We also recognize that these nations have faced centuries of colonialism and oppression through devastating policies such as residential schools, forced relocation and assimilation. We honour their resilience in upholding their cultures in the face of adversity.
Treaty 7 territory is a place of great beauty where breathtaking views abound – towering mountains reach up towards the clouds while winding rivers carve through valleys rich with wildlife. It is an area full of life and colour, where traditional songs echo in its forests and plains. As we live, work, and play on this land today, we pay our respects to all Indigenous nations who have stewarded these lands since time immemorial.
We acknowledge the conflicts that this land has seen throughout time, and we work to bring knowledge, acceptance and peace to all peoples we work with and come in contact with.
